Condolence From: Aimé Chevrier
Condolence: A few days before my cousin Lionel he called me. The call was quite unexpected, since it had been over 50 years the last time we had spoken, when as a student one summer in Toronto, I had visited him and Rachelle in Lindsay. During the call, comletely spoken in French, he reminisced about his earlier years in Hearst, specifically how he enjoyed being with my parents, how they had been good to him and
to Bérengère, and how much he had loved them. I knew that for a fact and told him that those feelings were reciprocal from my parents' standpoint. Being some 10 years younger than him, he enquired if, as a child, I remembered that era. I was pleased to tell him that I did, to recall for him two incidences that to this day stands clearly in my mind: for my 5 year old or so birthday, he had built and given me a red and white wooden scooter, and also I remembered my cousin giving me a ride on his old motorcycle on George Street where we lived. He also asked about my family and we talked about the importance of a sound family life. He ended the call by telling me he would write the following week. He did and in the letter written in French, he reiterated his heartfelt feelings for his uncle Aimé and his aunt Laurette, my parents. To my great surprise, he included a cheque for 100$ asking me to take my wife out for dinner. It was when I called his home and talked to Gisèle that I heard the very sad news. I was hoping to attend the funeral services, offer my sincere condolences and pay my respect to the family in person. Unfortunately, we are receiving our two children, their spouses and our five grandchildren for this easrter weekend. I realize that this constitutes a rather long and unusual condolences, but I felt it needed to be said because our cousin Lionel was indeed very close to our side of the family. He's in my thoughts and I'm sure that he does rest in peace. Finally, I will take my wife out for dinner as my cousin asked me and we will gladly toast him accorfdingly.

Condolence: Grandpapa was a very hard working, intelligent, loving man. He went out of his way to help those less fortunate than himself. He didn't view himself as better than anyone else, and his talented violin playing was enjoyed by many. I'll always remember the trips to see the bear drinking orange crush, fishing by the locks, and simple sunny days by the porch, just making conversation of corny jokes, or how to solve one of his puzzles. I have an audio cassette tape of us, from when I was about three years old. He gave it to me and when I listened to it, he was interviewing me on a trip to the doctor, and singing with me, song sung blue. I remember that he never treated my brother and I differently.
He always encouraged us to build things with his tools, while my grandmama showed us both how to sew. He loved his wife, my grandmama, and his family tremendously. He was a considerate man, and I know I'm not the only one who will miss him.
We know he loved God, and that he's in a better place, but we are sad to not have had more time with him. I'm truly thankful to have had him in my life.
